Classroom Management (Behavior)
Behavior Influence Techniques
This is a site which lists some specific techniques you can try with students with behavior problems. If one doesn't work, go down the list and try another! Great resource!

Dr. Mac's Amazing Behavior Management Site
This is a "wacky" page that is humorous, but don't let the light-hearted visuals allow you to think this is not a serious site. Jam packed with information from various sources! Also, "Dr. Mac" welcomes comments or questions. He encourages teachers to write in for advice on our bulletin board if they have concerns/issues.

Think About This......
Keep it simple. We all want to shine. We all want to do fantastic things that will help students achieve to great heights. There will be plenty of time for that. Right now, as you start, take it a step at a time. If you do this, like magic, you and your STUDENTS will shine soon.

Ask Questions!!!!!

Get involved! Although you will be very busy managing your own classroom, it is important to join colleagues on teams and committees. This will help you gain knowledge and build relationships.

Keep a journal, Take notes about everything: your students, your planning, your classroom management, school activities, etc.

Remember: Your mentors are there for you. They are not the "enemy". Listen to them and learn. You may not agree with their advice. That is OK! In order to develop your own teaching style, you must be aware of the different styles from which to choose.

Don't feel bad or unsuccessful if you feel overwhelmed. You WILL feel frustrated and overwhelmed sometimes. We all feel that way. Don't beat yourself up, feel guilty, or throw up your hands in defeat! Call a mentor, read, join a chat, or just let off some steam. Tomorrow will be a new day.

Don't let a problem grow. If you need help, ask! Don't let the problem turn into something TOO BIG to handle.

Be honest with yourself. Reflect and analyze at the end of each day. Nobody is perfect. If you have a day that is not successful, figure out what went wrong and what you will do to make it better tomorrow. Even experienced teachers need to do this!

MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: Keep your sense of humor, smile, and laugh with the kids.
