The JUNGLE!

This project was completed by Elementary Students.
This is one of those projects that you almost have to BE THERE.
The photographs don't give you the real FEEL of this "Jungle Installation".
However, I will try to describe some of the aspects of this project.
We started the project by painting the the backdrop. Using bulletin board paper, we covered the walls with a loose,
expressionistic jungle background. Using scrap wood, we built a rather primitive armature for the body of an animal that turned out to be a giraffe. (We didn't really plan that.
We made the armature and the kids wanted to make a giraffe. So, we did!)
While some of the kids added paper mache to "fatten up" the giraffe, other students worked on creating animals out of cardboard boxes and stuffed paper.
These were painted with tempera paint.
We put the finishing touches on by adding collage elements to the walls and sculptures. We made lots of leaves and hung vines from the ceiling. We also painted a waterfall with fish cascading down the falls.
We used styrofoam packing peanuts for the water "bubbles". We spread shredded paper and straw on the floor. Then we cranked up the animal sound effects. VERY COOL!
The kids loved their jungle!
