Mexico - An Art Quest

Level: Grades 6-8


INTRODUCTION


The country of Mexico is part of North America. Mexico is south of the United States as seen on the map. Mexico has an interesting and exciting history. The Mexican people are proud and rich in culture. This multimedia project offers you the opportunity to learn about MEXICO and its ARTISTS.

Learn about the ART of MEXICO.

* Research the arts of Mexico
* Sharpen your technology skills
* Recognize the styles and media of Mexican Art
* Learn to work as a team on a collaborative project
* Work as a group to create a brief, six slide Hyperstudio presentation

PROCESS

* Class will be divided into groups of four.
* Each group member will choose a role.

PAINTER
SCULPTOR
WEAVER
METALSMITH

* Using resource links, students will gather information about an artist in their "media".
* Collect information about your artist by using the DATA SHEET
* Group members will collaborate and create a six slide Hyperstudio slide show.
* Slide shows should contain the following six slides:

INTRODUCTION
MEXICAN PAINTER
MEXICAN CERAMICIST OR SCULPTOR
MEXICAN FIBER ARTIST
MEXICAN METALSMITH
CONCLUSION



EVALUATION

Each group project will be evaluated using a RUBRIC. Your group should print a rubric to use as a guide while creating your slide show.



CULMINATING ACTIVITIES

Classroom groups share their slide shows.
Students may create an artwork which emulates the media and style of a Mexican Artist.
Plan a "FIESTA" to share Mexican treats, slide shows, and art with other classes!
